Dairy Farms

*Refer to table below

The installation of a Reclaim CO₂ hot water heat pump at your dairy shed will reduce your energy costs and your carbon emissions for power. Even better, you can keep your existing hot water tank and still benefit from these savings!

On dairy farms, we recommend the installation of a separate cylinder to preheat the water for your dairy tank. The size of this new cylinder will vary depending on the size of your farm and hot water use. You want to size it based on the most hot water that you will use for your vat and plant wash within 12 hours. The Reclaim CO₂ heat pump heats the water in the new cylinder to 60 degrees, then you can refill your existing dairy cylinder and top it up to 80 degrees, ready for wash down. If you can wash with cooler water the savings will be even bigger.

The Reclaim CO2 hot water heat pump system is able to heat 750L of hot water per day in one go, which is the volume of a 1000L cylinder of water per day.

For the best efficiency, we recommend using option 4 on the heat pump controller, which is designed to heat the cylinder during the day.  Other settings are available should you choose to heat the hot water during a different timeframe.

Requirements for the Reclaim CO2 hot water heat pump system to be suitable:

  • Minimum water pressure requirements is 350kPa. Between 400-500 kPa is desirable.
  • Water quality requirements are drinking water quality. *See water quality requirements document.
  • Ball valve must cope with hot water temperature of 63’ degrees
  • Reclaim CO2 hot water heat pump system is suitable with gas (if you don’t use an electric element to heat water).

Average cost for 1,000L hot water a day.
